Dr. Hurst graduated from Indiana University school of medicine in 1970.He moved to Maine to tech at the outward bound school. Otolaryngology residency at Tufts university, Boston(1975) where he is now a retired assistant clinical instructor; board certified AAO-HNS(1976); He joined the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy(AAOA)(1987) Certified fellow, past chairman of research, member of the executive committee, Director of the AAOA basic and advanced allergy courses.

He became a member of the Triologic society in 1996 following publication of his thesis on the university, Sweden under Prof. Per venge in 2000.

Dr Hurst was a solo ENT practitioner in rural Maine 1975-2003, plus another 12 years in Portland, Maine where he limited his practice to otolaryngologic allergy, retiring in 2015. He has authored 42 papers and 1 book on the subject of allergy as it relates to middle ear disease.
