Track: COVID -19 and ENT
This session explores the impact of “COVID-19 and ENT” system, focusing on its diverse presentations and management strategies. ENT manifestations have emerged as critical indicators of COVID-19, with symptoms such as anosmia (loss of smell), dysgeusia (loss of taste), sore throat, and otologic symptoms like sudden hearing loss and tinnitus being common in affected patients’ latest evidence on ENT-specific symptoms in COVID-19, including nasal congestion, rhinitis, and pharyngolaryngitis. Participants will gain insights into the diagnostic challenges posed by these overlapping symptoms with other viral infections, as well as the role of imaging in identifying COVID-related ENT complications.
Key case studies will be presented to highlight unique presentations, such as sudden sensorineural hearing loss and post-COVID dysphonia, emphasizing the need for early recognition and intervention.
Recent Developments:
Recent research has deepened our understanding of the effects of COVID-19 on the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) system, offering new insights into its pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and management. Early in the pandemic, anosmia and dysgeusia became hallmark symptoms, but further studies have expanded the spectrum of ENT involvement, revealing complications such as sensorineural hearing loss, otitis media, and laryngopharyngeal issues.
Sub-Tracks:
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
Explore the ENT-related management of ARDS in COVID-19 patients, focusing on airway interventions and ventilatory support in severe cases.
Transnasal Laryngoscopy in the COVID-19 Era
Review safety protocols, diagnostic value, and procedural modifications for performing transnasal laryngoscopy while minimizing viral transmission.
Transnasal Injection to Vocal Fold in the COVID-19 Era
Discuss the role of transnasal vocal fold injections in voice disorders, addressing safety precautions during the pandemic.
Tracheotomy Recommendations During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Analyze updated guidelines for safely performing tracheotomies on COVID-19 patients, balancing airway management and infection risk.
