Track: Laryngology and Voice Disorders
Session Overview:
This session aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of laryngology and voice disorders, encompassing the anatomy, physiology, pathology, and clinical management of conditions affecting the larynx and vocal mechanism. The larynx plays a vital role in voice production, airway protection, and respiration, making its health essential for effective communication and overall well-being. Participants will explore a broad spectrum of voice disorders, ranging from functional dysphonias and benign vocal fold lesions to complex neurological conditions and laryngeal malignancies. The session will highlight current diagnostic approaches, including laryngoscopy, videostroboscopy, and acoustic voice analysis, alongside contemporary treatment options such as voice therapy, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs. Attendees will gain valuable insights into improving vocal outcomes, preserving laryngeal function, and enhancing patient quality of life.
Recent Developments:
Recent advances in laryngology have transformed the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders through innovative technologies and evidence-based therapeutic approaches. High-definition videostroboscopy and narrow-band imaging have improved the visualization and assessment of vocal fold pathology, enabling earlier and more accurate diagnosis. Developments in office-based laryngeal procedures, including vocal fold injections and laser treatments, have expanded treatment options while minimizing patient recovery time. Research in regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, and neurolaryngology is providing new insights into vocal fold healing and nerve regeneration. Additionally, personalized voice therapy programs, telepractice services, and multidisciplinary voice clinics are improving access to specialized care and optimizing outcomes for patients with both benign and complex laryngeal disorders.
Sub Tracks:
Voice Disorders and Dysphonia:
This sub-track focuses on the evaluation and management of voice disorders characterized by changes in vocal quality, pitch, loudness, or effort. Discussions will include functional and organic causes of dysphonia, diagnostic methods, and treatment strategies aimed at restoring healthy vocal function.
Vocal Fold Nodules and Polyps:
Explore the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of vocal fold nodules and polyps, commonly associated with vocal misuse and overuse. Topics will include conservative management through voice therapy as well as surgical interventions when necessary.
Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR):
This sub-track examines the effects of gastric reflux on the larynx and upper airway. Participants will discuss diagnostic challenges, symptom assessment, lifestyle modifications, medical therapies, and strategies to prevent recurrent laryngeal irritation.
Vocal Fold Paralysis and Paresis:
Investigate the causes and clinical manifestations of vocal fold paralysis and paresis resulting from neurological injury, surgery, or systemic disease. Discussions will cover diagnostic evaluation, voice rehabilitation, injection laryngoplasty, and surgical reconstruction techniques.
Professional Voice Care:
This sub-track addresses the unique needs of professional voice users, including singers, actors, teachers, broadcasters, and public speakers. Topics will focus on vocal health maintenance, injury prevention, performance optimization, and specialized therapeutic interventions.
Benign Laryngeal Lesions:
Examine a range of non-cancerous laryngeal conditions, including cysts, granulomas, papillomas, and Reinke’s edema. Discussions will highlight diagnostic approaches, medical management, and surgical treatment options designed to preserve vocal function.
Laryngeal Cancer:
This sub-track will focus on the epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment of laryngeal cancer. Participants will explore advances in imaging, endoscopic assessment, surgical techniques, radiation therapy, targeted therapies, and post-treatment voice preservation.
Voice Rehabilitation and Therapy:
Explore the principles and practices of voice rehabilitation for patients with voice disorders resulting from injury, surgery, neurological conditions, or chronic vocal misuse. Topics will include behavioral voice therapy, post-operative rehabilitation, technological innovations, and multidisciplinary approaches to restoring vocal performance and communication abilities.
